  • Jung declared his break from Freud's psychoanalytic school with Symbols and Transformations of Libido, which he first published in 1912. The book soon became his best-known and most influential work. Jung, who wanted to rearrange his work for many years because it represented a transitional situation in the development of his theory, was able to realize this wish only in 1952. In Jung's own words, Symbols of Transformation is a new expanded interpretation of a practical understanding of the prodromal stages of schizophrenia. The symptoms of the case form the Ariadne rope to guide us through the labyrinth of symbolic parallels, that is, among the details that are absolutely necessary if we want to determine the meaning of the exemplary situation. Jung draws on religion, mythology, ethnology, art and psychiatry by drawing an interdisciplinary path in following these parallels. It deals with many works from the West and the East.
