Detalhes do produto

This classic on space travel was first published in 1953, when interplanetary space flight was considered science fiction by most of those who considered it at all. Here the German-born scientist Wernher von Braun detailed what he believed were the problems and possibilities inherent in a projected expedition to Mars. Today von Braun is recognized as the person most responsible for laying the groundwork for public acceptance of America's space program. When President Bush directed NASA in 1989 to prepare plans for an orbiting space station, lunar research bases, and human exploration of Mars, he was largely echoing what von Braun proposed in The Mars Project.

Astronautics & Space Flight Editorial Review

The Mars Project by Wernher von Braun is a highly technical book that describes the journey to Mars through a series of calculations. As a result, it is not narrated through a story line and only suitable for those with an advanced understanding of calculus, differential equations, orbits, and thrust calculations. However, for those interested in building and flying rockets, this book is an important historical document that showcases the knowledge gained in the 1940s and 1950s. The black-and-white text and diagrams may disappoint readers who were expecting Chesley Bonestell prints. Nevertheless, the book arrived on time and in great condition, making it worth the purchase for enthusiasts.
