As for the amount of soil needed to fill the planter this depends upon three variables: #1 The depth and type of material used for drainage (empty wine bottles, gravel, broken pottery shards etc.) #2 The number, size and type of plants (small annual bedding varieties, low growing evergreen shrubs and/or vines, and succulents or cactus #3 The type of soil to be amended with the bagged soil specific for the type of plant to be planted. For most vines and or shrubbery you will need to amend a single bag of all-purpose container soil with 1/3 native ground soil otherwise the bagged soil alone with be too loose to maintain adequate moisture. The number of bags will depend upon the circumference of the plants to be planed and the number. For succulent and cactus be sure to amend the with course sand and or rocky native soil with a ratio of 2/3 to one container soil bag for the type of plants. Keep in mind that succulents, cactus, and palms require a special blend of bagged Cheers! Deborah Burnett

However, it comes with only one drainage hole which needs modification if you wish to use it for hydroponic gardening. Moreover, the pot does not come with any internal shelf, and one has to fill up the bottom with some rock or similar material before adding soil.
