    responda: Assuming you meant tapered, no, it is a straight tube. There is a slight bevel at the very end (you can see it by zooming in on the photo), I think to ease insertion. I have had no trouble removing samples from the probe.

    responda: I have used mine for a few years now sampling 10 acres of pasture and grass hay ground. It works fine and goes plenty deep for this crop.

    responda: As deep as the probe is long if the soil is not too firm. Usually, a foot or so would suffice.

This soil probe is made in Canada and is chrome plated. It can work on 10 acres of pasture and grass hay ground and goes up to a foot deep in moist soil. It has a sturdy Construction and can be comfortable to use. It works well for taking core samples of lawn soil to send to a lab for analysis. It is appropriate for turf managers/specialists. However, it is Considered expensive for a one-time use tool. A wet ground makes it easier to get it into the soil. It may have some burrs that need filing off before use. It could be effective even on hard clay soil but careful when encountering rocks.
