The ankle flexibility is perfect for paddling a kayak, and the boots don't mark fiberglass. They provide a great grip on mud, stones, and grass, but the lack of ankle support needs to be compensated with added insoles or ankle braces when hiking. They run large, so ordering a size up would give room for wearing thicker socks. They are suitable for winter kayaking, but not made for walking in snow.
