- A balanced pH of the vagina is crucial for maintaining a healthy vaginal environment and preventing infections. Most pathogenic bacteria cannot survive in the naturally acidic environment of the vagina. Normally, the pH of the vagina is between 3.8 and 4.5. Unfortunately, vaginal infections are widespread and can be recurring problems in women of all ages.
- An imbalance of the vaginal bacterial flora can lead to an increase in pH and cause bacterial vaginosis, also called vaginal catarrh. This is an infection of the vagina that can lead to a foul-smelling genital area and different colour and consistency of the discharge. Untreated bacterial vaginosis can lead to complications and sometimes requires medical care.
- Our vaginal pH test is performed using a sample collection stick that is inserted into the vagina to take a sample. When the sampling stick comes into contact with the pH paper on the test field, the colour changes. Different pH values result in different degrees and shades of color, with each specific pH assigned to a certain degree or shade on the color scale supplied with the test.
