- Farabi (870-950): Türk-İslam filozofu, gökbilimci, müzisyen. İslam'ın Altın Çağ'ının en önemli isimlerden biridir. Farabi yükseköğrenimini Bağdat'ta tamamladı, zamanın ünlü bilginlerinden ders aldı. Aristoteles'in ve Platon'un eserlerini inceledi, bu iki filozofun felsefelerini İslam'la bağdaştırmaya, bu sayede İslam dinine felsefi bir nitelik kazandırmaya çalıştı. Felsefeye mantık ile başlayıp metafizik üzerinde durdu; felsefenin dil, siyaset, doğa, zihin ile ilgilenen dallarında eserler verdi; müzik aletleri geliştirdi, müzik ve psikoloji konularında yazdı. İslam felsefesinin gelişmesini ve korunmasını sağladı, Batılı Orta Çağ düşüncesini etkiledi. Kendi zamanında ilim kabul edilen ilimleri sınıflandırdığı İlimlerin Sayımı'nda, her ilmin konusu, değerleri hakkında bilgi verir, bu ilimlerden birini öğrenmek isteyen kişileri neyi incelemeye giriştikleri, bu incelemenin kendilerine nasıl bir fayda sağlayacağı, o ilmi öğrenmekle hangi üstünlüğü elde edecekleri konusunda aydınlatır.Ahmet Arslan (1944): Ankara DTCF Felsefe Bölümü'nden mezun oldu, 1973 yılında aynı bölümde doçent oldu. 1979 yılında Ege Üniversitesi Edebiyat Fakültesi'nde Felsefe Bölümü'nü kurdu. 1988 yılında profesörlük unvanını aldı. İlk Çağ Yunan Felsefesi, Orta Çağ İslam Felsefesi ve Kelamı, Osmanlı Kelam Düşüncesi üzerine çok sayıda kitap ve makale yazdı. Farabi'den yaptığı İdeal Devlet ve Mutluluğun Kazanılması çevirileri de Hasan Ali Yücel Klasikler Dizisi'nde yayımlandı.
