There is more to it than that. Because we all have to go there, and bad luck and setbacks can, and will, happen to everyone at some point. So, the difference between winning and losing, over the long term, is often how well we observe and then execute play, compared to others.Think Moneyball the movie (Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game, Michael Lewis). In the story, the team wins the series, not because they are ‘better’ than the competition, but because they have come to see themselves and reality more clearly and more consistently.So, we have a game, teams facing each other, people in competition. And often what the folks in the bleachers can see, the players cannot. And that is the challenge here too.If we want victory, then it helps to observe what we do as if from a distance, as if through the eyes of others. But often seeing our own behaviours is not so easy. So, think sports, but think Sigmund Freud too, because most of the time we know ourselves very little and that has to change.And in the method of Self-Analysis we set about clearing this fog from our minds. And we do this not by dwelling on the past, nor the present, but the future. We follow a written method, where we visualise coming events in the manner of a predictive journal. We pick coming events that we sense carries risk for us, and we set about unpacking the meaning that lies behind that fear. That’s the first thing. The meaning behind the ‘why’, behind the ‘how’, of how we are likely to fail.Because the hidden meanings the event contains and our response to that, is what will drive our behaviour on the day the event arrives. We create the event on paper, as it will play out in the future, and then review the ‘game film’.I’m talking important events here, ones we have to get right. And we do this because we have to, not so much because we want, but we are tired of leaving opportunity on the table.The future isn't something that just happens to us. It's something we influence through the decisions we make every day. Better decisions require insight; the kind that makes behaviour smarter, timing sharper, and outcomes better.You don't need advice.
